Few sensations are as unpleasant and menacing as that of acid reflux. The feeling of something burning you from the inside, travelling up from your stomach and into your throat, is profoundly unpleasant and also psychologically unsettling. For some, there’ll be an underlying condition, like dyspepsia, for others, it may relate to something they’ve just eaten. For many of us, there’s not necessarily any perceptible reason why we’re so prone to this most alarming of feelings. While gay massage doesn’t have the whole answer, its calming effects can certainly help. But for those of us who are regularly attacked by internal acid, more information is needed. It’s thought that approximately 40 per cent of Britons regularly experience heartburn (a somewhat misleading name given to the problem). And since it increases the likelihood of both throat and oesophageal cancers, it needs addressing. Here are some of the things you can do to give acid reflux/heartburn the boot. Gay massage is often the best first step when you’re about to make other changes to your routine. Its reconditioning and relaxing effects are like wiping the slate clean, so that you can make a fresh start. Afterwards, look at the list below and work out where you can make that all-important change.

Give up smoking

The list of conditions and diseases caused by smoking is a long one. And you can add heartburn to it, in capital letters. The nicotine causes muscles in the oesophagus to relax, which means that stomach acid has an easier entry point into your throat.

Stand up straight

Bad posture has an effect on the oesophagus. As with smoking, poor posture forces it to relax, which means that acid can climb up. When either sitting or standing, make sure your posture is good.

Change your diet

If you’re a frequent sufferer of heartburn, you may have noticed that specific foods tend to trigger it. If you haven’t, start being more conscious. When you get acid reflux, think about what you ate earlier. Work out what the main offenders are and then cut them from your diet or at least reduce them. They could be: fatty foods, chocolate, spicy foods, dairy, black pepper, fry-ups, citrus fruits, tomatoes, garlic.

Change your drinks

Drinks are another offender, and it’s usually alcohol that’s too blame, but it could also be carbonated drinks, citrus fruit juice and caffeinated beverages. Reduce them or ditch them altogether.

Watch your weight

Alas, getting chunky means heartburn is more likely. The more you’re overweight, the more there’s a pressure on your stomach, increasing the chances of heartburn. Even if you’re within a healthy BMI range, losing a little bit of weight (while remaining in the healthy range) can work wonders.

Change your wardrobe

Are you wearing very tight clothing? Perhaps you find it flattering and sensual. But if you’re getting heartburn, it could be responsible. Tight garments put more pressure on the stomach – ergo, acid reflux. Go for looser apparel and you’ll feel the difference.

Eat some ginger

Raw ginger, ginger extract and even crystallised ginger has been a heartburn remedy for centuries and that’s because it works. Adding it to your diet will really help.

Take baking soda

Like ginger, baking soda is another remedy that you can try before resorting to over-the-counter ant-acids. Mix it with water, as per the instructions.
